This podcast will make you laugh and make you cry. It will also help you to feel more authentically connected.
Hello, you wonderful human
It’s always a joy to be here with you, sharing a few moments as you read these words. Thanks for choosing to spend some in your day to take steps to become a more connected human.
The HUMANS:CONNECTING team and I have created this blog to be – like our podcast – a place where you get great information about human connection and feel supported, challenged and inspired as you do what you need to do to get the connection you need and deserve.
Books and podcasts are a great source of information and inspiration for you and me. I wanted to share with you a podcast that I listen to most weeks.
Introducing: The Imperfects
I get such great advice and support from the hosts (Hugh van Cuylenburg, Ryan Shelton and Josh van Cuylenburg) and their conversations with prominent Australian and international guests.
As the name suggests, the podcast is all about having kind and honest conversations about our imperfections. The conversations are beautiful. They’re heartwarming and inspiring. In sharing stories and listening to the life wisdom of others, we can feel the connective power in vulnerability and empathy.

I like how the episodes start in a direction and then go in another direction when something interesting is shared. As a podcaster, I know that this takes courage and skill to do but uncovering those surprise gems is always worthwhile. It requires the hosts to be present in the conversation all while steering the conversation and allowing it to flow organically.
Hugh, Josh and Ryan are great at that. Often in hilarious ways.
I particularly value the episodes featuring Dr Emily Musgrave – a clinical psychologist. Dr Em often picks up on a concept within a response or insight shared by one of the guests in a previous episode. She then explores the concept from a psychological perspective, inviting the hosts and us listeners to reflect on the concept and apply it to our lives.
The Imperfects is not a podcast about human connection and how to become a more connected human. However, the conversations frequently talk about loneliness, social disconnection and becoming more connected. The importance of human connection feels woven into the fabric of the content.
The podcast was the most popular in Australia in 2024. It has an Australian focus, so if you’re not Australian you may not know the guests nor understand the cultural references. I feel that the content and how it’s delivered is worth you listening to a few episodes. See how you go.
The ads can be a bit clunky and frequent (often feeling that they start in the middle of a conversation and interrupting the flow), but the content is otherwise provided at no additional cost and it’s worth the minor interruptions.
Where to find it
Episodes drop weekly (Monday mornings in Australia) and can be found wherever you get your pods.
